It is estimated that each day in Canada, 11 people end their life and 210 people make a suicide attempt. Suicide affects all ages, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, and socio-economic statuses, yet we are so hesitant to talk about it.
We All Believe in You (WABIY) wants to talk openly and honestly about suicide and suicide prevention.
In 2017, WABIY was contacted by the Canadian Mental Health Association to create portraits for Suicide Prevention Week. The images were used in this awesome collaboration video.
Portraits were taken in forty different Edmonton locations over four days. What was originally intended to include thirty participants quickly became over 120 because so many Edmontonians wanted to put their face behind the cause of suicide prevention. Participants were asked to create a ‘Message of Hope’ to help inspire a person struggling with suicidal ideation to keep on going. So many hugs, tears, and stories were shared during these four days. We are so grateful for the opportunity and the people who participated.
